Making the Desert Bloom

Fifty years ago this windmill filled a New Mexico, USA stock tank. In this climate cows need more than 100 acres each to find enough food to gain weight. They water at the tanks in the morning, go out to graze and come back for more water when they need to. If the windmills and associated stock tanks are to far apart they will use all their energy walking.

You’ve heard the term “Grass Fed Beef”? It has a reputation for flavor, but being very tough. This is why. Unlike feedlot cattle, range animals get a lot of exercise!
